Let’s take a behind-the-scenes look at how we take a project from “I know I want something different” to a home that feels unique and completely you.

Most people come to me with a general sense that something needs to change — even if they can’t quite name what yet.

Maybe you’ve lived in the same home for years and you’re tired of how you originally set it up; it no longer works for the life you’re living now. Or maybe you’re mid-build or mid-renovation, buried in decisions, and starting to feel decision-fatigue. Either way, it’s not fun.

Interior design looks simple from the outside. You see the finished room — the beautiful sconces, the refined kitchen, the art on the walls — but you don’t see what it took to get there.

Countless questions. Measurements. Floor plans. Sourcing. Samples. Conversations. All of it, working quietly behind the scenes to bring your vision to life.

Where It All Begins

Before You’re a Client

Before we talk about furniture, fabrics, tile, or paint, we want to understand you.

That’s what our initial discovery call and in-home consultation are all about. We’re not there to start picking finishes — we’re there to understand your project goals, your timeline, your budget, and what you’re really hoping to accomplish. We ask a lot of questions, like:

  • How do you want your home to support your day-to-day?
  • What isn’t working for you?
  • What do you love about your home already?
  • How do you actually spend your time there?
  • How do you want your home to feel when finished?

We walk through your space together, talk through the challenges, and brainstorm. We’re not trying to design your entire house in two hours — but we are trying to understand the problem well enough to know how to solve it.

From there, we put together a detailed proposal outlining the scope of work, estimated investment, and timeline, so you know exactly what to expect before we move forward.

1. Onboarding & Kickoff

Before we begin designing, we take time to understand the rhythms of your life. How you move through your rooms, what you reach for every day, what’s working, and what you wish felt different.

Through our onboarding process, you’ll share inspiration, priorities, and the little details that help us see your home through your eyes. Then we meet in your space for our project kickoff meeting: walking the rooms together, talking, measuring, photographing, and noticing all the things that will shape the design.

It’s part practical, part personal; and it gives us the foundation to create a home that doesn’t just look good in the finished photos.

2. Concept Design

Then comes the fun part: bringing your vision to life through a concept design that outlines the design direction, budget, and ideal floor plan—our opportunity to make sure we’re aligned before moving forward with the rest of the project.

It’s the phase where a project starts to feel less like a collection of ideas and more like an actual plan. We’re asking ourselves questions like:

  • How should the rooms relate to one another?
  • Where do we need warmth or contrast?
  • Is what we discussed being visualized in the way you hoped?

Good design isn’t always about adding more. It’s about making better decisions.

Our Concept & Budget Review gives us the chance to walk through that direction together, make adjustments, and make sure we’re aligned before we go any further into the project.

Depending on the scope, this phase typically takes four to six weeks. And while that might sound like a long time when you’re eager to see the finished room, this is where we save ourselves — and our clients — a tremendous amount of time later on.

The more thoughtful the beginning, the more confident the rest of the project becomes.

3. Design Development

This is the layer that people usually think of as actual “interior design”.

Cabinetry, tile, plumbing fixtures, lighting, flooring, furnishings, window treatments, paint–these are the details that make a room feel like your room. But we’re not choosing any of these things independently — every selection is made in relationship to the larger design plan.

We develop final furniture layouts and elevations where needed. We create material combinations, drawings, and renderings when they help communicate the design. We work through the details that need to be communicated to trades and vendors.

A gorgeous sofa that isn’t comfortable isn’t a successful selection. We’re designing for your real life. The finished space should feel elevated, but it should also feel natural and like it’s yours.

4. Execution Phase

Once the designs are approved, it’s time to make it real. Every selection comes with a surprising number of details—from sizes and finishes to fabric and trim yardage, paint specifications, and exact light fixture placement, just to name a few. We make sure all of those details are buttoned up for you before anything gets ordered.

We organize those selections into proposals for your approval, and you purchase your furnishings and design items directly through our office. From there, we take over.

You hired us to design your home, you shouldn’t also have to become the project manager.

And yes, things will happen along the way. Interior design is a human process. There are lead times, backorders and decisions that need to be revisited. That’s normal. Our job isn’t to pretend those things won’t happen, but to manage them for you.

5. Installation Phase

And then comes the part everyone’s been waiting for: installation day.

Once everything is ready, we coordinate the delivery and installation of your furnishings and bring all those months of planning together under one roof. Rugs are rolled out, furniture finds its place, window treatments go up, and the rooms finally begin to feel like the home we’ve been imagining together.

But we don’t stop at the big pieces. We layer in the art, accessories, pillows, objects, and finishing touches that give a room its personality.

Some may be pieces you already love, others we’ll source specifically for your home. By the time you walk back in, the decisions have been made, the boxes are gone, and your only job is to enjoy it.

The process is detailed because your home is personal.

There are hundreds if not thousands of decisions involved in creating a home.

Some are big, some are tiny, and some you’ll never even notice, because they were handled before you ever had to think about them.

That’s the value of the process.

Instead of spending your evenings scrolling through endless tile samples or wondering whether the sofa you found online is actually the right size, you get to participate in the parts of the process that are meaningful, and let us manage the rest.

The best design doesn’t announce itself. It simply makes life at home feel better. That’s what we’re here to create.
